Hannah Lester, a school librarian from Picoico, Missouri, said her weight problem became especially obvious during her college years. Fast food becomes an easy food option, because she works at a fast food restaurant and because of her busy class schedule. She weighs about 285 pounds and she is only 5’6″ tall. So it's about time to exercise less.

Getting a job after college really helped Lester turn his life around when she and her colleagues took a weight loss challenge. Lester started simple: from January to May 2012, she will try to reduce 35 pounds. To help her do this, she created a plan.

  • She cut off all fast food and soda from her diet.
  • She drinks more water every day.
  • To exercise, she started walking more.

To her surprise, Lester completed her goal in March, 2 months earlier than she expected. Realizing that she was on the right track, she began to put her life in a new direction, eventually losing 50 pounds.

When she lost 50 pounds, Lester decided to take everything to a new level.
  • She uses the ladder at the gym and increases the walking time.
  • She also started eating at home, which she felt helped her indirectly eat healthier.

Over 3 years, she finally lost 100 pounds.

Finally, Lester has 3 tips that she believes have helped her lose weight and can help others like her.
  • Keep your fat clothes. They are a reminder of how far you have traveled on your weight loss journey.
  • Celebrate small victories. The last little things (good, minus small losses) and too frustrated can make you mislead.
  • Similarly, implement reasonable goals. Making your plan as easy as it can, will help you stick with it.
